If there’s any community in Alberta that’s officially on the rise, it’s Chestermere. Formerly classified as a “summer village,” it upgraded to “town” status in 1993, not long after its population reached 1,000. Two decades later, in late 2014, after a massive population boom, it officially became a “city.” Evidently word got out that the only thing better than vacationing in a gorgeous lakeside resort town is staying there permanently and calling it home. More than 17,000 residents now call Chestermere home, with no sign of the population boom coming to an end any time soon.

Over half of Chestermere’s residents are under 35 years of age, helping give the city a palpably youthful vibe. Large numbers of retirees and empty nesters have settled down in “Alberta’s Oasis” as well in recent years. Many families, drawn to the great schools and safe neighbourhoods in Chestermere, have taken root there, too. A demographically diverse group, residents of Chestermere have one thing in common: they’re all suckers for scenic vistas, lakeside living, and an overall excellent quality of life.

Along with an abundance of spacious, family-sized dwellings, the Chestermere MLS often includes ideal housing options for singles and kid-less couples (townhouses, starter homes, bungalows). With a nice mix of historic, well-established, and brand-spanking-new homes for sale, Chestermere beholds a dream home for one and all.

Chestermere shares a border with Calgary, making it easy for commuters to earn a paycheck in “C-Town” before escaping back to paradise. Others have the luxury of working within city limits. Lured by a whopping business tax of zero percent, new businesses have opened shop steadily in Chestermere throughout the past couple decades. And since the city recently annexed and set aside more than 2,000 acres for future businesses to utlize, it’s only a matter of time before even more Chestermere residents are able to live, play, and work without stepping foot outside their hometown.

Situated adjacent to Alberta’s primary east-west roadway, the TransCanada Highway, Chestermere residents have easy access to neighboring communities. Highway 1A serves the city as well, allowing residents to get to downtown Calgary in 20 minutes flat. The city is also located just 25 kilometers from the Calgary International Airport – you know, for when you want to take a vacation to some other beautiful resort town.

Most people in Chestermere rely on their own wheels to get around, but another option, if you're heading to Calgary, is to hop aboard the First Canada Charter buses, which make the short trek to the downtown area Monday through Friday.

An extremely biker-friendly city, Chestermere includes a 27-kilometer bike path within the city. Also, the city is connected to Calgary's advanced bikeway system at the southern tip of West Chestmere.

The only problem with the neighbourhoods in Chestermere? Unless you’re the buy-houses-all-over-town type, you have to pick just one to call home.

Whether you’re a family guy or a lone wolf, you can’t go wrong with Lakeview Landing. A healthy mix of modest bungalows, duplexes, and distinguished freestanding homes, it includes quality real estate options for high rollers and tight-budgeted buyers alike. Nestled on the western edge of Lake Chestermere, it’s the perfect residential destination for those who revel in the lakeside-living atmosphere.

Much of the city’s elite reside in East Chestermere, a serene and spacious community featuring distinguished estates on large lots. Lakefront homes in East Chestermere tend to be among the city’s most desirable real estate. Alberta’s recreational and relaxation oasis, Chestermere is home to a wide range of outdoors amenities. The iconic Chestermere Lake is the prime attraction, and on a warm summer day you’ll find droves of tourists and locals waterskiing, surfing, boating, wakeboarding, fishing, or just relaxing on the sunny shores enjoying a frosty beverage or six.
